On the 5th of February 2025 Risidale celebrated World Read Aloud Day. The event was a vibrant celebration of books and imagination, with learners from across the school coming together to share in the joy of reading aloud.
This year’s event was an impressive participation, with students from all grades eagerly joining in making the day a school-wide success.
The activities were both fun and educational, beginning with the Grade R students who listened to "We Are Going on a Bear Hunt" via a YouTube video, projected in the classroom, where Grade 4 learners helped demonstrate and teach the actions to accompany the story.
In the hall, Grade 4 learners enjoyed a reading of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" in both English and Afrikaans, followed by the creation of story wheels and bookmarks to retell and celebrate the tale.
Throughout the day, students from Grades R-3, along with some teachers, dressed up as their favourite book characters, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
Another highlight was the peer reading session held after the second break, where older students read to younger learners, fostering a sense of community and encouraging literacy across the school.
World Read Aloud Day 2025 was an unforgettable event that brought the entire school together, igniting a passion for reading and storytelling among students and staff alike. The enthusiasm and engagement displayed by the learners reaffirmed the school’s commitment to fostering a love for literature and the lifelong benefits of reading aloud.

We encourage you to make reading with your child a daily habit. Not only does it boost their vocabulary, comprehension, and imagination, but it also strengthens your bond. Reading together creates a special time for connection, away from screens and distractions. Turn it into an event — choose a cosy spot, let your child pick the book, and add fun voices or discussions to bring the story to life. These small moments will become cherished memories while fostering a lifelong love for reading.
